BEDFORD RIVER FESTIVAL 2006

The Bedford River Festival is a great family day/weekend out with a number of events centred on the river plus fun fairs, craft fairs, processions, displays and demonstrations; in fact all the elements to have a great time. The event highlight takes place around 9pm on Saturday night with an illuminated boat procession followed by a spectactular firework display.

For those new to the Festival, the river level above Cardington Lock is lowered by about 8 inches, for up to 3 x 2 hour periods each day,  to allow bigger boats to get under the bridges and reach the town centre.  The timings will be published nearer the time, and for those who have not witnessed this "river management" in action it is something to behold.  It takes about 20 minutes for the level to drop, and the same to fill up again.  So don't be late in your slot !!!
